A special message for Overseas Members

Portfolios
The Group at present runs two slide, one print, and three e-mail circles. Membership is on average between seven and twelve, and changes from time to time. Postal members see the original image in full quality. Portfolios are circulated every couple of months, and members contribute a print or a slide, and write in a comment book which circulates with the pictures. Starting in June 2004, we have had one new email circle a year, so we are up to three e-circles, each with 7-8 members. They circulate images to each other once a month, normally commenting to all by e-mail towards the end of the month. The e-mail members see a jpg compressed image, but it costs very little to email images round, and you don’t lose your original for months at a time. You do not need to be on Broadband to contribute to an e-circle. Indeed, one of the Circle Secretaries himself uses dial-up. So, if you are concerned to limit the impact on your phone bill, ask to join e-circle 2. We stipulate that e-circle members must have and maintain up-to-date Virus Protection and a Firewall, and be willing to have their e-mail addresses circulated to all members of their circle. Either way, joining a Circle has many benefits, comments on your pictures, sharing of experience and techniques, the opportunity to get to know people who you might meet later on Colour Group weekends or London meetings. You see pictures from other parts of the country, and, as one of our members said “Dealing with the Portfolio is a great way to spend a wet afternoon.” Yes, we do have room for more members so, if you’d like to join a circle, or if you’d like to know more, drop me an e-mail, stating whether you’re interested in prints, slides or e-mail images. Or, if you have already decided to join, download an application form (in pdf format) here. Gill Dishart ARPS.
